Resilience

Rest is not retreat.

In a culture that glorifies the grind, stopping feels like losing. Taking a break feels like falling behind. Saying no to an opportunity feels like missing out entirely.

You leave at five to beat the traffic and return after eight, and you call the exhaustion ambition. So people push until they break, then wonder why they have nothing left to give.

But rest is not the opposite of productivity. It is the foundation of it. The athlete who trains without recovery does not get stronger — they get injured. So does your mind, and so do your relationships.

You were not built to run without stopping. Rest is not the reward for the work. It is part of it.

Today’s action

Block out two hours this week with no agenda. No productivity. Just rest.

Today’s affirmation

Rest is not retreat. I was not built to run without stopping, and stopping is part of the work rather than a reward I have to earn first.

Say it. Then send it to someone who needs it.

Today’s nugget

Clear's rule for a missed day is simply never to miss twice. One lapse is an accident; two is the start of a new pattern.

The Repair Matters More Than the Fight

You have decided that a good home is one where nobody raises their voice, so you swallow things and go quiet for days. The silence costs your household far more than the argument would have.

What Being is

Being is a daily wisdom app for faith-anchored professionals, students, parents and entrepreneurs in Nigeria and the African diaspora. It publishes one piece every morning: a short, practical reading you can finish in under two minutes, ending in a single action you can complete the same day.

Everyone reading Being sees the same piece on the same date, resolved in their own timezone. Alongside the daily reading there are book summaries — the working ideas from a book, with an honest note on where it falls short — and life insights covering career, business, finance, family, parenting, academics and faith.

Roughly one piece in four is explicitly rooted in faith. The rest is practical and needs no faith commitment to be useful. Nothing here is motivational filler: every piece has to be true, has to respect your intelligence, and has to leave you with something to do or think differently about.

Where the name comes from

The name is taken from Acts 17:28 — “In him we live and move and have our being.” It is a reminder that we are not accidents, and that we are not defined by our productivity or our failures. We exist within something greater, and that ought to shape how an ordinary Tuesday is spent.

Being is published by Techly Marketing Limited in Lagos, Nigeria. You can read more in about Being.
