A dead academic term is unearned, unfair, and not yours to fix. And one relationship: two mornings a week inside a real firm, workshop or laboratory, paid or not, because in an informal hiring market the person who has watched you for six months is the person who recommends you.

Structure prevents the whole thing dissolving. Three fixed mornings a week and a written finish date beat an ambitious plan with no calendar. Keep a dated record of what you built - it answers the interview question about the gap far better than the true but useless sentence, there was a strike.
